Forest Engagement Photography
Shamilah & Phil were married at The Matara Centre in Gloucestershire, a beautiful alternative wedding venue, but that’s a whole other story…coming soon! For their forest engagement photography we headed to a super sunny Forest of Dean and went for a walk in the woods. Anyone that’s walked the Sculpture Trail will know how hard it is to stay on the route.
While chatting about Shamilah and Phil’s wedding day, we managed to get utterly and completely lost but did end up at our intended final destination. This was the final sculpture called Cathedral which is a large, brilliantly colored stained glass installation depicting the life of the forest. It also just happens to be exactly the spot at which Phil proposed to Shamilah! It’s well worth a Google to learn about the history of the art piece and why it was installed where it was.
Magical moments
There is something undeniably magical about forest engagement photography. Surrounded by towering trees, golden sunlight filtering through the leaves and nature having its say, it’s the perfect setting to get a little excited about what’s to come and have a few photos captured. Forests have a way of making everything feel romantic and timeless – perhaps it’s because everything around us has been here much longer than us.
When is the best time of year for forest engagement photography?
One of the best parts of a forest engagement shoot is the ability to move freely, walking hand in hand amongst the tall frees and low ferns. I have always encouraged couples to embrace movement and spontenaity which creates a more authentic image. Using leaves and branches to frame individual aspects of a couple or to ensure they are in the best light is also useful. With this in mind, every season brings something special but I do like Spring when the forest is lush, green and the flowers are doing their best to attract the local bug population.
Engagement Shoot Photography Portfolio
There are lots more e-shoot pictures on my portfolio. That’s enough words from me – time to let the light do the talking…and when I say light, it really was the best sort.
